In celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Youth Behavioral Health Subcommittee was proudly presented tthe 2025 Youth Mental Health Awareness Champion Award to Haggen Walker, a sophomore at Coeur d’Alene High School.

Haggen was recognized during a heartfelt school-wide assembly on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, where he was honored in front of peers, faculty, and special guests from the Department of Health and Welfare, Panhandle Health District, and subcommittee members.

The Youth Mental Health Awareness Award recognizes students who demonstrate extraordinary leadership, compassion, and commitment to mental health advocacy. Each spring, school staff submit nominations for students who are making a meaningful impact and this year, Haggen was nominated not once, but four separate times by four different adults at CHS.

Here’s what they had to say:

Haggen is an exceptional student who has made a profound impact on both CHS and the wider community through his dedication to promoting mental health and well-being. Whether he’s handing out ‘Compliments’ for Sources of Strength, organizing Mental Health Awareness Week, or leading breakout sessions at conferences, Haggen always finds ways to spread kindness and connection.

“He’s a leader in student council, Sources of Strength, Key Club, GSA, and IDFY. He brings positive energy to every room, genuinely cares for his peers, and always makes time to check in with others.”

Through initiatives like Vision Board enrichment seminars and lunchtime outreach events, Haggen has built bridges between students and mental health resources. His ability to inspire and lead with authenticity is a gift to our school.

From running clubs to leading events, Haggen has become a source of strength and support for many of his classmates. His work fosters safe spaces, encourages conversation, and reduces stigma - all of which are vital steps toward building healthier school communities.

Even as a sophomore, Haggen’s influence is already far-reaching, and he continues to uplift others with every step he takes. His recognition is not just about what he’s done… but about who he is: a compassionate, dedicated, and joyful advocate for youth mental health.

Congratulations, Haggen!

You are a Mental Health Awareness Champion in every sense of the word. Your leadership, heart, and unwavering positivity has already touched so many lives!
