Honoring Mary Wolfinger: R1BHB 2025 Mental Health Advocate

In celebration of Idaho Mental Health Month, Empower Idaho, in partnership with the Region 1 Behavioral Health Board, is proud to recognize Mary Wolfinger as the 2025 Mental Health Advocate Award recipient for North Idaho.

Each year, Idaho’s seven regional Behavioral Health Boards select one individual whose service and advocacy in mental health rise above and beyond. These honorees exemplify compassion, resilience, and commitment to improving the lives of those experiencing mental health challenges. In Region 1, that honor belongs to Mary!

A Champion of Change and Compassion

Mary Wolfinger has spent years standing as a pillar of hope for individuals navigating some of life’s most complex challenges. Her dedication to supporting people with co-occurring mental health and substance use diagnoses—particularly through her work with the Mental Health Court program—has left an indelible impact on the community.

As a key advocate behind the program’s growth and sustainability, Mary has helped thousands find a path forward, guiding participants through recovery, accountability, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives. Her voice has shaped how our systems serve vulnerable populations, and her work has transformed the court into a place of healing, not just justice.

The Region 1 Behavioral Health Board shared these reflections:

Mary’s commitment to those experiencing mental health challenges is nothing short of extraordinary.”

“Her presence is a cornerstone in the mental health community. She is a professional—compassionate, sincere, and resolute.”

“Mary’s contributions have not only changed lives but have helped reshape the criminal justice system to one that embraces recovery, accountability, and hope.

Whether coordinating services, organizing community outreach, mentoring colleagues, or advocating for systemic change, Mary shows up with integrity, heart, and an unwavering belief in what is possible.

Mary’s influence extends far beyond program logistics… she is a changemaker! A leader. A mentor. A source of strength for those who often feel unseen. She is living proof that tireless advocacy, compassion, and professionalism can transform systems and lives alike.

Congratulations, Mary!
